How many times do you plan and then execute accordingly? Most of the time, I would say. What if, you simply go for it without much thought and still turns out to be one of the most adventurous and joyful days. Well, that’s what happened with us on this beautiful summer day.
I had seen on a television programme about Humber Bridge and had always wanted to go there. It is about two hours drive from where we live. Last weekend we packed some food and started to drive thinking we were going to see a close by waterfall. Once we reached the motorway we felt we could go a bit far, we checked Humber Bridge distance and thought another hour would get us to the place we always wanted to see.
The bridge starts with a queue for toll but it soon gets over and then the longest suspension bridge of UK comes fully in sight. It is iconic and majestic. The Humber estuary which we were crossing as we drove is expansive and looks pristine in the sunshine. After crossing the bridge we parked in the viewing area. There was thick lush greenery all around.
Walking along the river on well made paths and lots of people relaxing felt amazing and thrilling. It was warm with the sun shining alongside the light wind. As a family I think we all love water and bridges. There is something about bridges that excites us all. Underneath the bridge we could see engineering at its best and what mankind has achieved. We were in awe at nature and machinery both competing to better one another.
Crossing the bridge again was as delightful, we pulled into the nearby town of Hull. It was bustling with evening life along the quayside. We found a quieter part of the city and had dinner before we could head back home.
Aimless unplanned days can bring a lot of happiness. Go with the flow and let life take its course can work out in the long run, as long as we still keep doing a bit of navigation in between.

I also laid down in the center of the span to take a pic of an upright beam. There’s a roughly 6″ gap between the walkway and upright beams and it felt like I’d fall through!
