Fancy Dress

When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Queen is all that I ever wanted to become. Growing up in India with too many fairy tales in English and Hindi left me with a huge desire to be a Rani, that is Queen in English.

There was a fancy dress competition in my school and I filled my role myself. My parents had no idea what I had put down. A week before the big day they got a notification from school that I was going to be The Queen.

Panic struck the household, my mother stitched my gown and by brothers made my crown. Fancy shoes were bought and finally all done.

My parents have never had much of an expectation from me and I never had any stress or pressure to do well. My aim was to go and perform my lines on stage and see the effect of my big personality on them. I was all smug about it all.

Well what can you expect from a happy go lucky confident five year old . Got the first prize. To this day my mother remembers the panic and laughs at my confidence.

No harm in having a big desire and fulfilling it in a fancy dress competition. Be calm, be happy and love yourself.
