Think back on your most memorable road trip.
My mother has a problem with one foot because of which she does not like going in flights and trains. She has always enjoyed going to different places. One year I had gone to Patna by myself. We decided to do a road trip. It had been ages since my mother had gone out of Patna.
We hired a car, driver and her manager also agreed to come with us. Four of us planned our itinerary. My brother lives in Jamshedpur and we decided to go to his place via Ranchi.
We left early morning even before sunrise. February is a good time for very pleasant weather. Little cold and mist and sun few minutes away we started. Our plan was to have breakfast somewhere along the journey.
The best sattu paratha that I have eaten was served to all of us. Freshly made, hot out of the pan with hot pickles and yoghurt. Sitting outside in the morning warmth eating this great food was a wholesome experience.
Upwards and onwards, we were supposed to meet my friend in Ranchi around lunch time. Going through the hills, seeing the locals with huge loads on their bikes was fascinating. They work very hard while still having fun.
The surroundings and villages were rustic but truly that is the beauty of India. Multi generations sitting outside in the sun, goats and cows glorifying in the temperatures too. Little children with a shawl wrapped around their head were out and about. Everything looked happy and we kept going.
We reached Ranchi on time and met my friend for a light lunch. It was wonderful that she took time from her busy doctors routine . She came with her girls. It was a good rest from the travels. My mother seemed pleased with all this.
Finally in the evening we reached my brothers place. It was a great experience for me to see how much my state has made progress. People still look poor and live in hut type dwellings but they all looked content. I absolutely enjoyed the whole trip and made some happy unforgettable memories.
Had to look Patna back up on the map. My Indian geography is not that good and fading away. Don’t know where you live, but even Jamshedpur to Patna is a long trip…
Sorry about your mother’s bad foot. It is always a bore to be limited. No possible treatment? Physical therapy these days have improved a lot.
Now I have a – silly – question: I have a bad back which is kinda strange, I can walk miles but long car trips are bad fro me, how good are the main roads in India?
I’m considering a trip to India. (Long story. 😉)
Phir milenge.

Make sure to have stop overs. Roads in India have improved and you can see so much more going by car . Please don’t let anything stop you. Go and enjoy. Best wishes.

I definitely remember mine. When we decided to drive to Park City, Utah instead of driving. It was the longest sitting on my life, then flew back, lol. Sitting for long is the drawback of long drives, no doubt.
